apologies to my avid readers...i know my blogging has been infrequent as of late.
here's a brief rundown of my long weekend.....
friday: went to work feeling like crap cuz i didn't sleep very well. i'm sure 3 of you out there know why. was supposed to go out with the work gang, but certainly wasn't in the mood to be with a lot of ppl, so i had jook with josh instead. went to yf for a bit, and was about to leave cuz again, didn't feel like being with a lot of ppl...but then the other suzette was staying so i thought i'd keep her company. we had a good chat. it was worth staying.
saturday: woke up at the crack of 10:30 when jina called. jina's from bc but is in montreal doing a french-immersion thingy, so she came to ottawa for the day with a whole buncha ppl from her program. jina, vincent, and i went for dimsum (very yummy). i thought of normie as i introduced them to the wonderful world of almond jello. after that, we walked around downtown for a few hours (enough for me to blow a good whack of cash in shopping!) until jina had to go back to montreal. the 3 of us decided to be wacky and get henna tattoos. vincent got this circular design on his arm, jina got two cherries on her arm, and i got my last name in chinese on my back. later that evening, i went to mexi's with the high school gals for drinks and snacks. was fun catching up and stuff. erika especially appreciated the genius behind norm's great idea of hooking me up with adrian.
sunday: went to ccco, had lunch with christine, sam, and andy. after that, the boys and i went shopping at st.laurent, where i spent even more money. bought a pair of cross-trainers on sale for $50! after that, the boys decided to teach me to play bball, so i had a good chance to break in my new shoes! it was actually pretty fun! i had to make them shoot goofy in order to make things even remotely fair, but it was pretty fun...i think my legs are too short for them to try to get the ball between my legs when they're on the offensive - they kept hitting my knees. andy had two moves of the day...dribbling it OVER me (that was unfair, but darned funny), and also getting a two-handed basket from behind his back (he maintains that it was a lucky fluke). very tired after playing for over an hour, but had plans with tommy. he ended up *discussing* with cousin dan all night, but suited me fine......too tired anyway!
monday: woke up nice and late, then did my laundry (too busy saturday, denise!). waited for my friend tim from hamilton to call, since he was supposed to be in town that day, but he never called. too bad for him (i found out today that he didn't come because he broke his leg, the poor dear). so i went to the oak with benana, chungie, joshie, and denny. we hung out at my house for a bit, during which time we amused ourselves with ben's inability to recognize his own name (the tattoo on my back). we later met up with andy at the driving range, and we went thru FOUR super buckets of balls...denise and i gave up after 2 buckets and waited while the boys finished off the rest. andy went home for dinner, but the rest of us went to lone star and had the fiesta for four. we were full. VERY full. SO full that altho i could've gone out for ICE CREAM when i got home, i was glad that i didn't go. that's how full i was.
today: work. home. went blading with bert. from my house to major's hill park, about 2 laps around the park, then back down colonel by all the way to hog's back....then back to my house! that's over 17K covered! albert did even more, since he bladed to and from my house on top of everywhere we went! then again, he's in shape. came home, ate, showered, and then went to ESD with johnny, paddy (note the cutesy spelling), and the boys. something weird about not being at buff charlie's and not trading my *non-bunk* wings for *bunk* wings. normie, if it makes you feel better, paddy got *bunk* Rings! most people left after ESD, but john got ripped off when it came to dessert. so he, paddy, dave, and abe went to oh so good. matty m joined us later, and provided us with much change (and became *chinese* in the process). i was told many things tonight. that i look like a vietnamese person (after which paddy told abe to be careful what races he compares people to), and that i "still have an accented english." very odd, considering that i never thought i ever HAD accented english, never having "come FROM" anywhere and all..... thankfully, the boys just taught me to ignore abe and everything he says. fairly amusing tho.
that's it, i'm tired. johnny, i know you're still up and you're prolly gonna read this before going to sleep at like, 5am.
you too, normie.
i'll leave you with a poem i wrote a few years ago. it's been on my mind a bit for the past week.....
A Blurb on Friendship
why is it that to become better friends,
you must open yourself and make yourself vulnerable?
i like being strong and independent.
i hate being vulnerable.
i've let very few people see the depths of my heart
and that was a risk in itself;
more than once i've regretted choosing some
over others more deserving of the honour.
consider yourself lucky if you've seen me cry
for a reason seemingly trivial,
or ever.
sometimes i wonder, that certain close friends,
if they knew, would they want to be so close anymore?
could they forgive me for all the wrong i've done?
would they understand the choices i've made?
could they comfort me when i realize the mistakes i've made?
and would they still be there for me like a true friend should?
a special group of friends,
the ones that have stood the test of time,
ones that i've shared a special connection with.
they can forgive me. they have forgiven me.
they understand me. they've been there too.
they comfort me. boy, do they ever comfort me.
and yet they are still there for me.
it's been said that a true friendship is one where you can sit together in complete silence and still feel like you've had a fulfilling conversation.
a comfortable silence.
perfect communication.
to all those friends to whom i've entrusted my deepest secrets,
you know who you are.
the ones to whom i've been able to utter those 3 words to
and mean it more than i ever have in my life.
to those with whom friendship is a risk worth taking.
vulnerability is soon soothed into comfort.
to all those friends, i have nothing to offer
with which to sincerely thank you for all you've done.
nothing except returned friendship,
and i can only hope that i can be
as you have to me.
