An outlet for frustration, bursts of love, and outright crazyness!

So I was surfing for some news snippets today (don't tell my boss) when I came across this article. I think it's a little excessive. I believe we use rice wafers at our communion (someone correct me if I'm wrong...they taste more ricey than wheaty), which I suppose is good because you'd be hard-pressed to find a Chinese person allergic to rice. :) In any case, I think that it's a symbolic act, and to have it declared invalid is not the place of the church. Who're they to pass judgement? Anyway, that's a whole 'nother rant in itself.

In other news, there IS no other news. John and I did NOTHING yesterday, for once, and it was GREAT! Having a softball or ultimate game or practice for nearly a week straight gets a little taxing. We watched the first 2 episodes of season 1 of 24. His sister brought back knockoffs of season 1 and 2 and we're going to go on a marathon, much like what we're going to do when my sister finally gives me season 1 of CSI (we already did season 2). The good thing about CSI is that you don't necessarily have to watch them in order, whereas with 24, you have to watch every episode, and in the right sequence. It's also great that there are NO commercials!! You save 16 minutes on the hour for every show you watch! I guess the downside to that is that you have to hold your washroom breaks for between episodes. And a funny thing about knockoffs... The box cover for the 24 episodes features Vin Diesel and Denzel Washington (and no Kiefer Sutherland)!

Not much new to report. We played softball last night, and what a pleasant surprise - we actually won our game! I think out of about 15 teams in the league, we are hanging somewhere around 11th. We have our tournament this Saturday, and apparently it starts at 9am! Goodness, I barely get to work at 9am, let alone get up to play softball!! (Actually, I usually get to work around 8:30). Phooey!

Speaking of getting to work early, I would like to say that the Tim Horton's at Rideau (the one across from Shopper's, not the one in the food court) has got to be THE most efficient Timmy's in the city! Even if the lineup is out to Payless, I have always gotten my coffee in less than 5 minutes flat! Y'know how if you're in stop-and-go traffic it's always good to be in the lane that's at least moving slowly but surely? Well, Timmy's is like that. The lineup is long, but it's always moving. Great stuff! I think they mix drugs into the coffee, and that's what makes it so addictive. Great buy, too ($1.20 for medium double-double). Their morning eats, on the other hand, leave something to be desired.

As much as I have to have my morning Timmy's to jumpstart my day while I'm on the bus, I also have to hail the fresh morning muffins at Marché. They are just fantastic (and only $1.17 each). They are always big, warm, fresh, and real! By real, I mean that I always get blueberry muffins and love to find pockets of gooey berry in my muffin. I like that they are made straight in the muffin pan, with no paper cups to peel off the stump. How environmentally friendly!

Go figure I have nothing to talk about until I get started on food. :)

My faith in Carleton has been restored! For those that don't know, I was very nearly completely and utterly screwed over! Because I had taken Japanese in high school, I wasn't allowed to take first-year Japanese. Fair enough. However, the first-year course is intensive and worth 2 credits, whereas every other year is 1 credit. I need 4 credits for a minor, so do the math. Taking 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year would leave me one short. So I got departmental permission to take a Japanese history course to make up the extra credit. La la la, this year rolls along and lo and behold: Carleton is not offering 4th year Japanese. Neither is Ottawa U, nor any other distance-ed university. PHOOEY!!

This is partly because 2 of the profs are going on sabbatical at the same time! So, I work out my options with the language coordinator at school. Ottawa U offers "religions in China & Japan" for .5 credits. Carleton has "Japan since 1945" and "Asian art: China & Japan" both .5 credits. I really don't want to have to go to Ottawa U for one course, but at the same time, I already took the precursor history course and I didn't like it much (Japan from 150,000B.C. to 1945A.D. was pretty dry, sorry to say). Anyway, my other option was to beg and plead the remaining professors to let me do an independent study with them for credit. This seemed slim, because 1. they would not be financially compensated for it 2. it would be on top of their teaching commitments and 3. they didn't know me. The 2 profs that are gone on sabbatical are the two profs that I've already been in classes with, and would be the more likely ones to have a soft spot in their heart for me.

But I got an email earlier saying that the logistics have been mostly worked out and that the two remaining profs are willing to help me out and let me do an independent study with them (one prof per term)!!

Carleton!! No K for Kwality this time! Talk about accomodating!!

I would like to thank all my faithful readers *sniff sniff*...without you, I couldn't have done it... Shout outs go to my lovely friend Denise, Chung for all the jook's, people out there like Lydia and Vincent who I don't always see but I know they're out there commenting... ya ya, enough with the Oscar speech, I'm back on the "I'm feeling lucky" for "zet lee" and that just makes my day, so thanks everyone!! I knew we could do it!!

First, to address Lyd's last comment, YEAH I know moe-moe (his non-updated blog is linked as moe-man)!! The world is indeed very small, isn't it? HA, how do you like that! Tell him that every time I see that ugly freaky face on shirts, hats, or what be it, I always think of him. And for everyone that thinks I'm talking about Jon's face, I mean the Oakley face that he loves so much.

Next, I had a very uneventful weekend, as usual. However, I got a bit of a long weekend because on Friday morning, I had heard on the radio that the Place du Portage buildings were closed because construction had hit a water main. I thought, "darnit, why couldn't I have worked there?" Got to work at 8:30 and got a barrage of emails about how our building was also affected because we had brown water and low water pressure, etc. An hour later, they closed our building too. YAY! So I went to visit ppl at my old work, had lunch with John, and then went shopping.

I bought just one nice knit baby blue halter top which I'm considering wearing to the wedding even tho a lot of ppl are telling me I should wear a dress. In my defence, it's a very LOW-KEY wedding and it might be too cold for a dress! That and if I do the halter-top thing, I would wear some smokin' black pants along with the shoes I got oh-so-long-ago for prom. Think about that, people! I could get THREE wears out of those shoes (I also wore them once for a wedding)!! That would average it to about $25/wear!! C'mon, can't argue with value!

Other wedding considerations include whether I should colour my hair. I want some red (coincidentally, I have a red box of dye that's been sitting in my room for over a year) chunky streaks in my hair, and I'm determined to bleach the streaks in and then just dye everything red (since whatever's not bleached won't show the red anyway). I'm wondering whether big red streaks will be appreciated in wedding pictures. Maybe I should hold off, but then I would want them before I go to Calgary/Edmonton. Decisions, decisions. Any input?

Yesterday, I had dinner with John's sister's family and then helped watched the kids while their parents (J's sister & brother in law) and John played ultimate. They are much too cute. Nicolas is at the stage where he is too cute to do much wrong. He saw hot air balloons at the field while I was tossing him in the air, so I told him I'd throw him high and he'd have to try to catch the balloons. When I caught him, I asked if he'd caught them, and he looked down at the nothingness in his hands to inspect whether he'd caught any piece of them. What a way to put a smile on your face!
