Wow, haven't blogged in over a month. It's been a busy month. So I've finished school, and sometime this week, the University Senate will convene and officially tell me that I'm done undergrad forever. My convocation is Thursday, June 16 at noon. With any luck, my degree will say that I have a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Linguistics and Applied Language Studies with a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language. How's that for a long and "impressive-sounding" degree?
Things have been busy busy busy. I've been spending my mornings volunteering at Rideau High School with the LINC program. That means that thankfully, I teach adults instead of the brats at Rideau. It's been great, I really like it there. I did my practicum there in the fall, and now I'm back as a full-fledged volunteer. It took a month for anyone to realize that I'd been there without the mandatory police criminal record check, but $35 later, I'm clean! I've fulfilled the 20-hour supervised teaching requirement of TESL Ontario so now I can officially be certified!! That is, if they approve me....watch them take my non-refundable $80 fee and reject me! :(
After school at Rideau (at about noon) I zip my way across town to work. Back at good ol' Informetrica. Didn't really wanna go back, but they're the only ones that would've given me a job for the hours I wanted. And plus they gave me a raise, heheh. So far, I've managed to shred a zillion documents. No, no Enron overtones here - I'm shredding financials that are older than the required keep-time.
Other than all that, ultimate has started! Once again, John and I are playing on Fridays on "All Hucked Up" for which I am assistant captaining. It's a fair bit of work, doing all the emailing and coordinating!
So really, all I've been doing this month is a lot of running around. Making sure I can graduate, trying to apply for certification that will hopefully help me find a job (I'll be mad if it doesn't do anything - it cost me $80 and a lot of time!), and trying to spiff up the extracurriculars to look good on CVs. It's a tiring job, but someone's gotta do it. I would blog more about specific stories and anecdotes, but that's enough blogging for one day!
